Conservative Tooth Restoration with Onlays

When preserving even a single damaged tooth, we take a conservative approach. Modern dental materials allow us to restore teeth to full function while maintaining as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Teeth can be damaged due to normal wear and tear, cavities, heavy bite forces, or trauma. While severe damage may require a full dental crown, smaller fractures can often be restored with an onlay. Unlike a crown, which requires more tooth preparation, an onlay preserves the unbroken portions of the tooth. A custom porcelain piece, similar to a partial crown, is bonded to the damaged area.

Onlays blend seamlessly with natural enamel and restore both function and appearance. When a conservative restoration is appropriate, our doctors may recommend an onlay as the best treatment option.
