Fillings

After removing decay, a filling is placed to restore the tooth and protect it from further damage. Most fillings today are made from tooth-colored composite resin, which blends naturally with your child’s smile. In rare cases, an amalgam (silver) filling may be recommended.

Crowns

Crowns may be recommended when decay is too extensive for a filling or when a tooth has been severely damaged. They are designed to protect the entire remaining tooth structure and restore function. Materials commonly used include stainless steel, resin, and zirconia—all strong, durable options that are selected based on your child’s needs and the tooth’s location.

Why a Crown May Be Needed

  • Decay is too large to be repaired with a filling.
  • The structure of the tooth has been compromised on one or more sides.
  • A tooth has been significantly damaged due to injury.
  • Your child has a high risk of cavities and needs additional protection.

If your child needs a crown, our doctors and their team will guide you through every step and answer any questions you may have, ensuring your child receives the best possible care.
